MEEP Radio Programme

MEEP Radio Programme

‘Rakimu Api Parisaraya’ (Let’s conserve the environment’) was the voice of MEEP heard over the national broadcasting Service of Sri Lanka. As the school workshop addressed the ages of 12 – 18, this Radio programme would reach out to the children below 12.

This programme used a ploy of showcasing the talents of children in rural areas by providing them an opportunity to perform on national radio. The programmes were arranged under themes of environmental awareness; where the concepts of conservation and environmental protection are driven into the audience in a subtle way.

Mrs. Sumana Jayathilleke an acclaimed narrator of famed children’s radio programmes conducted the programmes. With her 44 year experience in broadcasting, the message of the M-waste project was easily spoken across to the children across the country, urging their parents to return all M-Waste units lying about in homes.

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) coordinated the programme; the local officers of the CEA took the message to the schools and organised the children in each school for the programme.
