A help desk is an information and assistance resource that troubleshoots problems. Corporations often provide help desk support to their customers via a hotline number.
A typical help desk has several functions. It provides a central point to receive help on various issues. The Customer notifies the help desk of his or her issue, and the help desk provides details on how to resolve the problem. If the first level support is unable to resolve the issue and needs to be escalated, it will be updated, noting what was attempted by the support representative and dispatched to a second level support.
