National Rugby Powered by Dialog Triumphs at Borneo Sevens

The National rugby team did their nation proud at the Borneo Sevens concluded over the weekend by emerging Bowl champions, completing a come from behind victory to emerge triumphant.

Sri Lanka beat Thailand 22-10 in Bowl Semi Finals and the final was played against host Malaysia. The Malaysians came out strongly to lead the first half 12-05 . However, the resilient Lankans fought back to score through Chathuranga and Vishwamithra in 2nd half for Sri Lanka to close out the game 19-12.

Defending Champions and Asian rugby giants Japan won the cup finals beating Hong Kong and 3rd place was annexed by the surprise package of the tournament China.

The team, lead by Srinath Suriya Bandara had players of the caliber of Chamara Dabare and Mithun Hapugodage from Havelocks SC who themselves are powered by Dialog, from current League Championship winning side at the Dialog Rugby League tournament that was recently concluded.

“It’s great to see that the faith and belief we put in behind the national squad in coming forward with a sponsorship has been justified in this win. The years to come will no doubt show greater improvements in the game at both National and domestic levels and Dialog will be an integral part of same going forward” said Irfan Ahmed, the Head of Marketing and Brands for Dialog Axiata PLC.

Dialog has pledged their support for both the National and domestic rugby tournaments over the next 5 years as part of their efforts to support and promote rugby as a game for everyone to enjoy in Sri Lanka.
