Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider has announced its partnership with Energizer, as the exclusive network partner and 4G partner for the latest range of Energizer 4G devices. The releases by Energizer include Sri Lanka’s first 4G feature phone, along with two additional 4G smartphone launches. The partnership will make Dialog the first and only operator in Sri Lanka to launch hard case phones.

The recent line of 4G smartphones include the H240 4G feature phone, the Energy 400 LTE 4G smartphone and the Energy E5250 LTE 4G smartphone. All devices are 4G, shock proof, dust proof and water proof, allowing for maximum durability and an increased life span at affordable prices. The H240 4G feature phone, Sri Lanka’s first 4G enabled feature phone comes with a 2000mAh battery, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. Additionally, the device runs on Android technology, an interface most Sri Lankan users are highly familiar with. The hard case H240 combines functionality with affordability and is best suited for users that require the user experience of a 4G enabled device at an affordable price point.

Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, in collaboration with Ideamart, hosted Sri Lanka’s first NB-IoT Hackathon (NB-IoT: Narrowband Internet of Things). The first to launch the technology in South Asia in October 2017, NB-IoT is a narrowband radio technology specially designed to enable seamless connectivity amongst devices using Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technology. Held on the 17th of March, the hackathon consisted of 9 teams tasked with creating NB-IoT solutions using Dialog’s IoT platform or making existing solutions NB-IoT compatible.

To date, Dialog’s developer relations and community development arm, Ideamart has conducted over 15 NB-IoT awareness sessions around the country for students, technologists and startups. The hackathon was carried out in two phases; phase one being a pre-hackathon event on 15th March to educate participating teams on Dialog’s NB-IoT network, special device packages, IoT developer kits and the future of IoT in Sri Lanka, and phase two being the hackathon itself, held on the 17th of March at the Dialog Head Office Auditorium. First place winners, Team Death Squad from Innova IT Systems, received Rs.150,000, while 1st runners up, Bite Code from the University of Peradeniya won Rs.100,000 and 2nd runners up, Team Strangers from University of Rajarata and Team Myhub from walked away with Rs.50,000. Consumer based solutions initiated at the hackathon included a water quality monitoring solution for the Anuradhapura district, infant healthcare solutions and comprehensive fitness bands that use the NB-IoT network and Dialog’s existing IoT platform.

Sri Lanka's premier connectivity provider, Dialog Axiata Group, announced a joint venture partnership with Orion City to build and manage the island's first ever High-Density Data Centre at the Orion City IT Park in Colombo.

The proposed Data Centre will be established through Digital Realty (Pvt) Ltd, a company jointly held by Dialog Broadband Network (Pvt) Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Dialog Axiata Plc and St. Anthony's Property Developers (Private) Limited (SAPD), a subsidiary of Orion City. The 200 rack High Density Data Centre is designed to offer world-class services to support the rapidly escalating demand for computing power in an increasingly digital Sri Lankan economy.

Promising the highest energy efficiency, and robust capacity to support up to 8 kilowatts per rack, Digital Realty's impressive capabilities are anticipated to drastically improve connectivity and accessibility to enhanced computing power according to Orion City CEO and Digital Realty Managing Director, Jeevan Gnanam.

"The launch of Digital Realty and the impending establishment of our nation's first, largest, and most efficient High-Density Data Centre is guaranteed to unleash a new wave of tech-enabled opportunities across the entire spectrum of local enterprises – from SMEs and tech-startups to large corporates, and especially for the banking and finance sector," Gnanam explained.

Powered by its own team of employees and a dedicated management team, Digital Realty will offer co-location services – enabling an enterprise's complete IT infrastructure to be hosted in the new state of the art facility, in addition to offering dedicated servers and cloud solutions.

The joint venture is the most recent consolidation of a strong relationship between Orion City and Dialog Axiata Group.

The cloud-based humanoid robot, designed specifically for commercial use in the retail, hospitality, healthcare and education industries, is part of Dialog’s efforts to expand its Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) product portfolio, along with introducing the next generation of robotics to Sri Lankan customers. The Humanoid Customer Assistant is able to greet and assist with providing advice on promotions and offers on its HD visual touch screen and further elaborate on any of the selected options with a detailed explanation of a promotion or offer along with an accompanying video/music and can entertain and engage with customers due to its facial recognition and voice interaction capabilities. It can even locate the charging station and energise itself automatically enabling continuous and uninterrupted service.

Dialog Broadband Networks, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka's premier connectivity provider, Dialog Axiata PLC, was rated Gold under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Sri Lanka's first UPTIME Tier III certified commercial Data Centre. The certification was bestowed by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), and recognises the Data Centre as the first LEED Certified commercial data centre facility in the country to receive the certification. Dialog's Tier III Data Centre also recently received the ISO 27001:2013 certification, further re-iterating Dialog's requirement for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving the information security management system within the context of the organisation.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), rating system, designed by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), provides standards for an environmentally-sustainable design and construction for high-performance green buildings. Dialog's new Data Centre facility features regionally sourced construction material and on-site operating systems designed to conserve natural resources and optimise water efficiency, air quality and energy performance.

A continuous improvement sustainability strategy was deployed to further support its green initiatives and is currently widespread across the 50,000 sqft. Data Centre. 77.5% of the site area is retained as open space with a section utilised for vegetation. Additionally, rain water runoff has been reduced by 5% due to effective rain water management strategies, controlled by best management practices and Heat Island Reduction through high reflective paving. The reduction of water usage by 45% has been due to the usage of high efficient flow and flush fixtures, and 100% of rain water is currently harvested for landscape irrigation.
