Dialog and EcoMatcher Drive Tech-Powered Tree Planting for World Environment Day
Dialog doubled the impact by matching the first 1,000 trees
26th June 2025 Colombo

Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s #1 connectivity provider, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility through a World Environment Day campaign that engaged the public in mangrove tree planting via the country’s first tech-driven tree-planting platform, EcoMatcher.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and encourage the public to plant trees digitally through EcoMatcher. To further amplify the campaign’s environmental impact, Dialog pledged to match the first 1,000 trees planted by individuals, effectively doubling the contribution toward climate action. As part of the wider initiative, an on-ground activation was held on the 7th and 8th of June at Havelock City Mall, offering an engaging, hands-on experience for participants. The response from the public was overwhelming, with over 740 individuals pledging to plant more than 1,270 mangrove trees.
The focus was on mangroves due to their critical role in climate resilience—they absorb up to four times more carbon than tropical rainforests, protect coastal communities from erosion and extreme weather, and provide essential habitats for marine and wildlife biodiversity. While this initiative centred on mangroves, Dialog hopes to extend its reforestation efforts to other vital ecosystems in Sri Lanka like tropical forests in the future.
Earlier this year, Dialog partnered with EcoMatcher—a global pioneer in digital forestation—for the first time, to introduce a transparent and traceable tree-planting platform in Sri Lanka. This innovative solution enables individuals and organisations to contribute to reforestation and carbon offsetting through technology. Users can plant trees online and track their location, growth, and carbon absorption over time. For organisations, the platform offers added benefits including Verra-certified carbon credits, sustainability impact reporting, and API integration to support large-scale green initiatives.
Through this collaboration and the World Environment Day campaign, Dialog continues to champion the use of technology as a catalyst for environmental progress. The campaign also contributes towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 (Climate Action) by promoting reforestation and empowering individuals and businesses to actively support climate resilience and long-term sustainability. It also aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by harnessing digital innovation to enable scalable environmental solutions.
Dialog invites all Sri Lankans to continue supporting mangrove restoration by registering at https://www.ecomatcher.com/dialog/ and becoming part of this growing national movement for environmental change—one tree at a time.
Additionally, Dialog continues to drive environmental sustainability through other impactful initiatives like the E-Kuku programme, which promotes responsible e-waste disposal. The company has also achieved ISO 14001 certification across key operations, highlighting its commitment to environmental management, and is actively working towards a Net Zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
